ABOUT Nutrition + Lifestyle Counseling
+ Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Naomi Nakamura. I'm a Functional Nutrition Practitioner. I help people who are overworked and overstressed, who are suffering from fatigue, digestive issues and even skin breakouts. I teach them how to stop chasing symptoms by listening to their body, using tools to collect personal evidence so they can find sustainable solutions and champion their own course and be high performers in the fast-paced, high-pressure world. As a Functional Nutrition Practitioner, I work in the scope of my practice and do not diagnose, prescribe or treat, but rather I seek to:
- Understand the whole person
- Address the circumstances (genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors) in which signs, symptoms or diagnosis manifested
- Educate on why health challenges arose and on how to take back control health
- Fill the GAP (education and communicator) that may exist between my client and their healthcare team.
+ What is Functional Nutrition?
Functional Nutrition relies on the same principles of Functional Medicine. It takes the approach of aiming to address the root causes as opposed to just chasing signs and symptoms aka “treating” a diagnosis using systems and frameworks that take into account each person's unique story versus “one-size-fits-all” protocols.
+ What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine is an approach of addressing the root cause of health conditions rather than only treating symptoms. A functional approach takes into account a person’s lifelong health history as well as their life story rather than just a diagnosis.
+ Who do you work with?
I worked with:
- High-achieving but burnt out professionals
- Individuals who are suffering from digestive problems, hormonal imbalances, unexplained weight issues and skin conditions
- Athletes who have overtrained and are suffering with adrenal depletion
- Action takers who have tried recommended diets and protocols but have not seen expected results
- People who are working with their doctor(s) but find it challenging to understand and implement the medical advice prescribed to them
+ What’s your counseling style?
My personal style is practical and direct but also supportive. I meet you wherever you’re at in your health journey. I provide guidance and support as you work towards your goals and I help you discover what works for you - not for me, for you.
+ How have you helped your clients?
I’ve helped my clients:
- Identify food sensitivities and intolerances through basic, full and specialty elimination diets
- Discover new-to-them foods that’s helped them to clean up their diet
- Learn the basics human anatomy and how food, lifestyle habits and environmental inputs influence how their body functions
- Strategize on how to fit recommended diet and lifestyle changes into their daily routines
- Practice body support modalities to manage stress
- Introduce herbs, supplements and essential oils to further support their health
- Find the right naturopath and/or functional medicine practitioner for them
The possibilities are endless!
+ What is expected of me as your client?
I expect my clients to be open-minded, willing to explore new approaches (and foods!), reframe their mindset, and be committed action takers. I work with people who truly want to improve their health for themselves and not because it is expected by someone else.
+ I’m in a different time zone, can we still work together?
Yes, I work with clients virtually and have worked with people all over the world.
+ I have a full-time a job, can we still work together?
Yes, most of my clients are professionals with 9-5 jobs (I am too!). I see clients in the evenings and on weekends.
+ Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance.
+ Do you offer payment plans?
I offer payment plans for 3-month and 6-month Nutrition and Lifestyle Counseling packages.
+ I’m ready to work together, what happens next?
Awesome! Complete and submit the form at www.livefablife.com/strategysession. After reviewing it, I’ll in touch to schedule a free 20-minute Finally Feel Better consult so we can see if we are a good fit to work together.
ABOUT The 21-Day Sugar Detox
+ What is the 21-Day Sugar Detox?
The 21-Day Sugar Detox is a simple, realistic program that can help you break a lifelong addiction to carbs and sugar, as well as balance your blood sugar. Created by Diane Sanfilippo, Nutritional Consultant and New York Times Best-selling Author, the 21DSD teaches you how to eat real, nutrient-dense foods, drop processed foods, reset your taste buds, enjoy the food you eat, and improve your health. There are no pills, powders or shakes – just real food.
+ Why are you a 21-Day Sugar Detox Certified Coach?
I believe that in order to repair your health, you must remove your barriers to healing. And the first step for anyone, regardless of your health concerns, is to remove the most inflammatory foods - sugar, gluten and dairy - and that’s what this program teaches you how to do.
The 21DSD is the most complete and comprehensive sugar detox program I’ve come across in my professional nutritional career. Yet I also know how addictive sugar is (processed foods have been engineered to be addictive). Having quit sugar on my own, without any support or guidance, I know how hard it is to do, which is why I’m a coach for this amazing program.
+ What is Beautycounter?
Beautycounter is a mission-based start-up with the goal to get safer products into the hands of everyone.
Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it’s in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home.
There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry and the United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.
What’s worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful in the products we put on our bodies and on kids’ bodies every single day, day after day, and to make their own judgments about safety.
+ Why are you a Beautycounter consultant?
I specialize in helping people with digestive and hormonal problems. A frequent cause of hormonal imbalances is a disruption to our endocrine system, commonly caused by toxins found in our food, in products that we use to clean our homes, and in personal care products that we put on our skin.
This is true for me as I continue to battle heavy metal toxicity and a common exposure to heavy metals is through cosmetics. Beautycounter is a brand of high integrity that I trust to provide high-performing products that have been tested (each batch of products are tested, not just the first few!) for safety. It’s one of many solutions I can offer my clients in removing their barriers to healing.
As a consultant, it’s a perfect compliment to my counseling practice that affords me the opportunity to build a FUN home-based business doing what I love and working with like-minded ladies (and a few fellas too).
