+ Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Naomi Nakamura. I'm a Functional Nutrition Health Coach. I help women in tech who struggle with everyday health concerns that if left unaddressed can add up to big problems. By taking practical actions towards improving diet and gut health, and reduce exposure to environmental toxins; we bring their body back into balance. As a Functional Nutrition Health Coach, I work within the scope of my practice - I do not diagnose, prescribe or treat, but rather I seek to:

  • Understand the whole person
  • Address the circumstances (genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors) in which signs, symptoms or diagnosis manifested
  • Educate on why health challenges arise and on how to take back control of health
  • Fill the GAP (education and communicator) that may exist between my client and their healthcare team.

+ What is Functional Nutrition?

Functional Nutrition relies on the same principles of Functional Medicine. It takes the approach of aiming to address the root causes as opposed to just chasing signs and symptoms aka “treating” a diagnosis using systems and frameworks that take into account each person's unique story versus “one-size-fits-all” protocols.

+ What is the 21-Day Sugar Detox?

The 21-Day Sugar Detox is a simple, realistic program that can help you break a lifelong addiction to carbs and sugar, as well as balance your blood sugar. Created by Diane Sanfilippo, Nutritional Consultant and New York Times Best-selling Author, the 21DSD teaches you how to eat real, nutrient-dense foods, drop processed foods, reset your taste buds, enjoy the food you eat, and improve your health. There are no pills, powders or shakes – just real food.

+ Why are you a 21-Day Sugar Detox Certified Coach?

I believe that in order to repair your health, you must begin by removing your barriers to healing. The first step for anyone, regardless of your health concerns, is to remove the most inflammatory foods - sugar, gluten, dairy, corn and soy - and that’s what the 21DSD teaches you how to do.

It's the most complete and comprehensive program I’ve know of as a health and wellness practitioner. Having quit sugar on my own many years ago, without any support or guidance, I know how hard it is to do, which is why I’m a coach for this amazing program.

+ What is Beautycounter?

Beautycounter is a mission-based company with the goal to get safer products into the hands of everyone.

Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, infertility and more) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxins that we are exposed to daily INSDIE of our homes (from water, air fresheners, cookware, and personal care and beauty products (to name a few).

There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry.

The current United States federal regulations for the beauty industry are a mere one and a half pages long, and there hasn't been a major federal law passed since 1938. In addition, the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) doesn't have the authority to make any recalls of products with known harmful ingredients.

Beautycounter is trying to change, by advocating for more health-protective laws by our ongoing efforts with supportive members of Congress, as well as other socially-conscious beauty companies that have joined our collaborative Counter Coaclition.

+ Why are you a Beautycounter consultant?

As a health coach, I help people restore their health by addressing diet and other lifestyle habits. Addressing and avoiding toxins is the missing piece of the equation that the vast majority of people fail to address.

I specialize in helping people with digestive and hormonal challenges. A frequent cause of hormonal imbalances is a disruption to our endocrine system, commonly caused by toxins found in food, in cleaning products, and in the personal care and beauty products that we put on our skin daily.

This is true for me as I battle heavy metal toxicity, a common exposure that happens in part from cosmetics.

Beautycounter is a brand of high integrity that I trust to provide safer, but high-performing products that have been tested for safety (each batch of products are tested three times by a third party!). It’s just one of many solutions I can offer my clients to remove barriers to health.
